If there’s one thing you’ll quickly learn at Â鶹ÊÓƵ, it’s that campus life runs on food. Good food, cheap food, “I-only-have-10-minutes” food—this place has it all. Whether you’re a breakfast person, a snack grazer, or someone who survives entirely on baked goods (no judgment), here are five go-to spots that will quickly become part of your daily routine at LU!
Let’s start strong. The Marketplace is where good intentions go to become actual breakfasts. On the rare mornings when I have the luxury of having a slow morning, this is my reward: a proper, hot, comforting breakfast. It’s also a great place to sit with friends and pretend that I am the kind of person who always starts the day like this (even if yesterday’s breakfast was just coffee). Sometimes I bump into my lecturer(s) here as well!
Ah, Greggs. The backbone of student survival. When my bank account looks… philosophical, Greggs steps in. The sausage roll? Iconic. The steak bake? Possibly lifesaving. It’s hot, it’s cheap, and it never judges me for eating pastry at 11am (or 3pm. Or twice in one day).
The Deli seriously deserves more hype—especially for its pancake brunch. I am not a big fan of sweet food - but the food at The Deli is an exception. Fluffy, fresh, and just indulgent enough, it’s the kind of meal that makes an ordinary day feel slightly upgraded. Even better, it’s right in the middle of everything: a short walk from the library, the main “food court,” Furness College, and Lancaster Environment Centre.
If you’re in the mood for something a little more “I have my life together and also a Pinterest board,” Coastal & Co is your spot - a cosy spot! Their toastie box options are simple but satisfying—crispy bread, good toppings, and just enough variety to keep things interesting. I can sit down here with a coffee, open my laptop, and almost become productive the whole day!
When I need something hot, fast, and reliably satisfying, Wok Inn has me covered. It’s a perfect place if you have an ‘Asian stomach’. Their noodles are the ultimate comfort food—steamy, flavourful, and made fresh right in front of you.
It’s also ideal for a speedy grab-and-go between lectures, especially when we’re near the central campus buzz. Whether I’m craving something savoury after a long study session or just need a break from sandwiches, Wok Inn delivers every time! Normally I will just bring them back to my accommodation and split it into two halves - because it’s a really large portion!
So, there you have it: five spots that pretty much cover every campus mood—from “I’m thriving” breakfasts to “I need a sausage roll immediately” emergencies. Here at Lancaster, the food scene isn’t just about eating—it’s about socialising and occasionally treating yourself. And once you find your favourites, you’ll realise: half your uni memories happen somewhere between lectures… with food in hand.
